Your Heart is Bigger Than a Giant's Head
My work explores the multifaceted experience of parenthood, aiming to enshrine the everyday moments of child-rearing. As both a parent and an artist raising two children, ages 5 and 10, I find the fleeting transformations of their growth to be both magical and bittersweet. I use clay, woodcarving, welding, found objects, personal ephemera and everyday digital technologies to create toy-like sculptures that reflect these irreplaceable moments.
For over ten years, I have been dedicated to this body of work, which has evolved alongside my children. Initially, I began this series before my son’s birth to process the ambiguity of a life-changing event. As my children have grown and developed distinct personalities, likes, and dislikes, I have started to incorporate their art and ideas into my work, fostering a collaborative process that reflects our shared experiences.
